REDSKINS The Eagle Feather
The eagle feather headdress is a sacred symbol of many Native peoples. Eagle feathers
are earned one at a time by a person for many reasons. Reasons may be
a death of a loved one, for extraordinary community service or for saving
a life. Veterans receive eagle feathers for their service. Eagle feathers are not entertainment objects. The Tulsa Oklahoma Public Schools have made a mocking chicken feather imitation of these sacred symbols of faith, healing and worship. They have been placed on a child's head for your entertainment during a sporting event. This is a disgusting abuse of Native American religious beliefs. This practice encourages children and adults to ridicule and mock the spiritual life of Native Americans.
