A CHALLENGE TO WASHINGTON REDSKINS FROM A CHILD

Night Wind asks you to read with Open Hearts

My name is Night Wind, I have been given this name by the Sioux. It is a name that shows the honor they hold for all the black races. The Medicine Wheel shows this.

Look at the Medicine Wheel of the Sioux. It is as old as their people, we of the black races share the circle of life. We are not less, not more, but as equals to the red races, the yellow races and the white races.

The Sioux are the only ones that hold the Medicine Wheel as sacred, for they know that all people belong to the circle of life. They know if we are to walk among the stars as human we must understand each other and share the honor of each other to move into the future as the medicine wheel, all belonging to the circle of life.

So I stand before you, with my brothers, Young Blood, Little Sun and Breeds. My sisters, Snow, Belongs and Future. We stand together, and I ask,

"Why do the Washington Redskins hate the Native American child?"

Have my big and powerful brothers who play for this team, and the ones who play against them forgotten the hate that lives in a name? Have my brothers forgotten a time when they were called NIGGERS? Have they forgotten the hate that went with that name?

Remember my brothers, that time.

Now, here my words...

In a time in the past, as in our past, the Native American children were given a name as we were. That name was as evil as the names given us. It is your name now brother, for you are the REDSKINS! A name that meant death to a child of Native American blood.

Do you my brother find honor in that name? Is there honor when that child's skin was taken to the government so the bounty could be paid? Human flesh coated with dried blood, the life blood of a child on that little redskin. Are you proud that 200 children died at Wounded Knee Creek, under a flag of truce?
It was because they were called REDSKINS. Are you proud that 20 medals of honor were given to the killers?

Who was to care? They were only redskins.

Why, my brother do you not honor those children? Why do you choose to honor a name that speaks only of death? Look at its history my brother, look at the name you honor and you will find that it is a name of evil, just as nigger. Why do you keep alive an evil name?

When you play your next game look at your fans hear them holler that name and remember a name of hate that they held for you. Know why the Native American finds no honor in your name only sorrow for you, my brother.

Keep the wound open, reaching back to a time when a people were hunted as animals. Know the memory of the death of a three year old child, as he fled from his haters at the Sand Creek Massacre. A three year old child used for target practice because he was nothing more then a redskin.

Remember brother, a time when the law looked away. When our people were the victims of terrorist acts. Now look at history and know how the Native American children feel every time they see the face of Andrew Jackson, on a $20 bill. An evil man who did not look at the law but turned his back on it because the children he sent to their death were nothing more then the name give them by white masters, REDSKINS.

Who would care? Remember my brother, a name of hate is kept alive by those who hate the children of another race. So look at the Sioux Medicine Wheel, we all belong, we all have the right to live without names of hate.

Will I see you honor my brothers and sisters as they have honored you?
